Frequently Asked Questions

What do you need oral surgery for?

You may need oral surgery to extract an impacted or partially-impacted tooth, to place dental implants, if you’re tongue tied, to treat an infection, have jaw pain, or for reconstructive reasons. If your dentist referred you to our office, it’s because they feel confident in the specialty care that we provide to our patients and sometimes the treatment you need is out of their scope of practice.

Do they put you to sleep for oral surgery?

When an oral surgery procedure requires extensive work, you and your doctor may decide that you need intravenous (IV) anesthesia or deep sedation. For other procedures, you can choose to stay awake if you wish, or opt for a milder form of sedation that simply relaxes you.

Does oral surgery count as medical or dental?

It’s often considered both medical and dental, which means both your health insurance and your dental insurance may offer coverage for your procedure.

Are dental implants worth it?

Yes, dental implants are worth it. There’s no other option that looks, feels, and functions so much like a natural tooth. You’ll enjoy a strong bite, stable restoration, and even a more youthful appearance by choosing dental implants.

How long does it take to recover from wisdom tooth extraction?

The amount of time needed to recover from wisdom tooth extraction depends on a number of factors, including how long you’ve had your wisdom teeth and whether they were fully or partially impacted, or erupted completely. Most patients who require oral surgery to extract their wisdom teeth need about 2 weeks to completely recover and feel back to normal.
