Meet Doctor Paul Calat

I always felt that I had a healing sense with my hands and I found that once I graduate from dental school that I can help people just by doing simple procedures, improve their way of life, improve their ability to smile, just leave better than before they met me. And that's my goal in every day of practice. The stuff that we do is pretty intense.

Even though I'm a light-hearted person outside of the office, in the office I'm very exacting, at this point in my career, I think I've been as an oral surgeon for about 24 years. You wonder where does time go? I'm no longer the new kid on the block and I'm far from retirement. I think I'm really at the peak of my professional skills.

You get compliments quite frequently in the office saying, doctor, you have really gifted hands. And I go home at night and I tell my son that your dad got some incredible compliments and how he takes care of people and uses his hands to heal. I think the most rewarding part of being an oral surgeon is the feeling of near instant gratification.

Another thing is the ability to sincerely ask for a patient to trust you and then deliver on the trust that they've gifted you. Most of our procedures that we do here, we see immediate results. I can see the changes that I made evident at the end of the procedure.

And there are some specialties such as orthodontics, which I have incredible respect for their intelligence and their planning and their knowledge of growth and development. And we work with some phenomenal orthodontic practices in our New York and New Jersey offices. The changes they see are incremental, a millimeter a month, or in the medical specialty, where they place a patient on medication and they got to follow them for months and years to see how they do.

From the first person that you speak to on the phone to the assistant that brings you to your room, we really focus on cleanliness, friendliness, and professionalism. And just at that point, they know that they are in the right place with the right team. On a daily basis, I leave here with just tremendous satisfaction, helping people get through experiences that they thought would be horrific.

And they leave here just oftentimes giving us an air hug.
