Michele Carunchio Atiencia, DDS, MD

Dr. Paul R. Calat - Manhattan Oral Surgeon

Dr. Michele Carunchio Atiencia is a dual degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who completed her dental training in 2011 at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine in the city of New York. She then remained at Columbia University for the following six years to continue her training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. During her Residency program, Dr. Carunchio obtained her MD degree at Columbia’s College of Physicians & Surgeons, she participated in advanced training in Anesthesiology and completed a 1-year internship in General Surgery at the University’s Medical Center in 2015.

Dr. Carunchio joined our practice upon completion of training in July 2017, and she is now licensed to practice in New York. She is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and she is Board eligible as recognized by this organization. Dr. Carunchio is currently on staff at Hoboken University Medical Center and she is soon planning to obtain hospital privileges in New York to give back to the Residency program throughout her career.

Dr. Carunchio owes her keen attention to detail and her fine hand skills to her late father and mentor in the field, Dr. Michael L. Carunchio, a successful practicing dentist in northern NJ until his passing in 2014. Born and raised in New Jersey and a graduate from Hoboken’s own Stevens Institute of Technology, Dr. Carunchio feels right at home in our Hoboken location, and she is now bringing her own flair to our Mid-Manhattan office.

Outside of work, some of her long standing hobbies include cross country running, cooking, baby-wearing, latin dance, and on special occasions she can really appreciate a nice wine and food pairing! Dr. Carunchio is extremely family oriented and she has a tight-knit relationship with her mother and sister, who have all recently moved into the same small town. She spends all the free time she can get with loving husband Joel and their young son, Mason Michael. Over the past year, balancing work life and motherhood has given Dr. Carunchio the drive to become an even better surgeon. This passion shows so gracefully through her work here at Mid-Manhattan Oral Surgery, and her patients will be happy to attest!
